Obernai Cheese Crock, Sugar or Jam Bowl

Ah, Chartres!  What a beautiful little town, graced by the amazing windows of its famous cathedral, fine restaurants and intriguing antique shops.  We found this lovely little Paté or Cheese Crock, Jam Pot or Sugar Bowl in one such antique shop, after a delicious crêpe and cider lunch next door.  Peering through the windows at the beautiful candelabras, silver and ornate furniture, this little crock stood out with its still vibrant colors and appealing shape.

It stands approximately four inches high and four inches across. While it shows some signs of use, there are no chips, cracks or breaks. The scenes are colorful and clear, without crazing. It's really in great condition. Notice the little head figurals on the side of the pot, and the lovely detailed knob on the lid.

This piece is marked as Obernai, a well-known pattern of Sarreguemines  - a well respected brand or "marque" in France for fine faience. Really a lovely little piece we were lucky enough to find in our travels - especially after the cider!
